  • Workshop >> Public space and movement (124h / 15 ECS), by Toni Mira (Nats Nus)

A practice directed by Catalan choreographer Toni Mira, a prestigious professional in the world of dance and a street arts expert. In this workshop, students will experience the creation of public space from the point of view of movement. The body and its potential relationship we share with architecture; movement next to the monument and the story that accompanies the buildings, places or corners that sustain our daily and public life in our cities. A dialogue to build upon by means of collective and orchestrated participation, but plural from all the participants. For this workshop the notions of dance are important but not essential. Interested students with little experience must be interviewed to find points of contact and opportunities for participation.

The New Drama / Singular Spaces module explores the different ways in which street art can create experiences that challenge traditional performance and its relationship with the public. Through the creation of an art project students experience and understand the possibilities of creating a site-specific show, the integration of technology, individual experience and practical challenges that call into question the conventions of the public and the promoters street art. Throughout the module we will ask many questions and we will try to find the answers. This is a practical module on creative challenges and the implications these have on the development of the sector.

Through analysis and practical exercise students will carry out the staging of a show that includes formal principles and the ethics of the genre and/or the tradition of Street Theatre. Certain elements must be known if this is going to be accomplished: the role of art in society, the relationship with the audience, breaking the boundaries of the formal and symbolic stage, connecting with its ritual and community origin, questioning the aesthetic and cultural codes, the use of gesture, image and metaphor as a means of communication, transgression and subversion, and the over valuation of the text in the theatre of academic tradition.
